painting

I did something good, or at least I'm feelin' good about it. As '07 was shy into the single digits I managed (after quite a long dry spell) to crank out Two last paintings for the year AND I have already finished one for this year of '08. But why not share any info via Q and A ?
Q: How long do it take to do a painting?
A: I think it would be better to say " how long does it take to finish a painting?"
whatever
Yes, well, who can say? One painting I did took 10 years to finally finish(concept, sketch, guts enough to put oil to canvas). I liked how it tuned out. At other times a day is quite sufficient. Answer your question?
kinda, I guess.
Q: You mentioned oil. Is that your choice of painting medium?
A: Yes it is.
Q: What kind of paintings do you do?
A: Uh, like what do you mean?
Q: You know like dogs and flowers or naked people, or outer spaces thingies...
A: Generally it is in the realm of abstract...
Q: Oh, 'cause you can't paint real good...
A: No it is not because I can't 'paint real good'! Some times I will delve into something that is kind of realistic looking. In the proper light of course...
Q: But no outer space thingies?
A: Not yet but that may be a possibility in the future.
Q: Come check me out because I got some great ideas.
A: Right.
Q: Have ya ever sold any thing?
A: I'm sure I once sold one for .13 cents, yeah, and I've given some away...
Q: OH, so it is not a " I'm gonna feed myself doin' this" kind of gig?
A: that's about right.
Q: Do you like painting?
A: You got it right, spankie!
Q: Why oil?
A: Well, at times I'm not so bright, hence oil has its' frustration aspect. Some paintings I have done I like 'em right from the get-go, others it takes me awhile to warm up to. And of course some are 'gonna paint over that!'
Q: Sounds truly mildly impressive. Have any other artsy things you pursue?
A: I use to love doing the ceramics thing, wood working is fun (in conjunction with stones/jewelry), leather crafts and screen plays, to mention a few.
Q: Can we hear more about that other stuff?
A: Maybe latter.

I like the Q&A. Very engaging! :) I think that abstract painting requires a level of creativity that more realistic paintings do not necessarily require. I've seen your paintings and they are wonderful! Artists have long been unappreciated in their lifetime. It is a part of the beauty of their work... it comes from great struggle and dejection! But we are artists nonetheless and must continue to pursue our specific artistic calling, even if it doesn't put food on the table! Looking forward to seeing your new paintings!
